Their lighter weight facilitates smoother cutting, which enhances the experience of treating diseased nails.  Ceramic burs also generate less heat than carbide burs, making them ideal for reducing thick nails.   They are also appropriate for use with patients who have an allergy to metal and should avoid stainless steel and carbide burs.
